Larry Wilson

Larry Wilson tries to corral the John Boy & Billy Big Show from 6am to 10am in the mornings, then gently rocks you to sleep at night from 6pm to midnight.  Did we say gently?  Yeah... right!  And check out Larry's sarcastic view on the world and his desires to "thin the herd" on his blog!

Another Birthday...comes and goes

I celebrated a birthday last week.  As I collect more of these annual events, they tend to more reserved and introspective.
For what ever reason they seem to come around faster, with fewer details to remember in between.

Now, I could try to explain all this...but Buffett does it far better.

Stay loose.

On the Road with Old lar

Yet ANOTHER busy weekend for the Old Man.

Tomorrow from 1pm - 3pm I'll be at Clayton Homes on North Pleasantburg Drive.

They have a huge national open house this month and we will be there to help get the word out.
Drop by for a free lunch, win some ROCK101 gear and check the quality work done by Clayton Homes.

As the day unfolds I'll be at the Carolina Ale House location on Woodruff Road from 6pm to 8pm.
Earlier in the day a poker run is being held to raise money to help the family of Katie Doll, who recently passed way.
Her family has incurred large medical bills and now, funeral expenses.  All money raised will go to the family.
The final stop on the poker run is the Carolina Ale House and even if you don't ride a motorcycle I urge you to drop by and make a donation, enjoy the music of the Piedmont Boys and hang with Old Lar.

Summer....The riding season
As upstate motorcycle riders we are lucky to be able ride all year long.....but without a doubt, Summer is the premier period.  As a result there are more events per weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day, than any other time of the year.

Keeping up with them can be a challenge but you are in luck!  :) There are two ways to stay in touch with as many events as you can handle.

1. The Two Wheel Update - Sponsored by Cherokee Trikes and more of Greer
Each weeknight at 7:30 we cover a wide range of events with specific attention to charity events, fund raisers, club functions, and rider organization sponsored meetings and rides.  If you happen to know of an event, feel free to make me aware of it at my Facebook page.

2. Facebooklarrywilson101  - Within the Events section I add as many items as possible,
While the majority are focused here in the upstate, we include events with regional or even national interest.
You are welcome to post flyers on my "wall" and I will include them in the Events section.
While you are there click "Like" and you will automatically see updates to what's going on in the area.

Thanks to Cherokee Cycles for sponsoring the nightly Two Wheel Update and helping all those groups get their event promoted.

Now...if you will excuse me, I need to log a few miles on the bike.

Stay loose.

Inside an Album
We've been NETFLIX customers for almost a year and in recent weeks I have found even more reasons to be a fan.

They have released a huge series of music based docuemntaries that span a wide range of music.  Below I have listed a number of albums that reflect much of what we play here on Rock101.  Each album or concert is disected and opened up for examination and without exeception all are faciniating. To make a good situation even better....ALL of these are available via the streaming option. No waiting for a disc....just punch and go.

Asia: Fantasia: Live in Tokyo – Filmed live in Tokyo, this concert features the four original members of 1980s supergroup Asia on their 2007 reunion tour celebrating their 25th anniversary. Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Wetton play the band’s biggest hits.

Classic Albums: Cream: Disraeli Gears – This installment of the Classic Albums documentary series explores Cream’s influential sophomore release, “Disraeli Gears,” which delivered a whole new sound to hungry rock consumers of the 1960s.

Classic Albums: Metallica: The Black Album – This documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Metallica’s critcally acclaimed self-titled 1991 album via band interviews, archival footage, demos and performances. The “Black Album” launched the metal heroes into the mainstream.

Classic Albums: Phil Collins: Face Value – With his first solo album, “Face Value,” former Genesis front man Phil Collins garnered international success and acclaim. This documentary examines the making of that album through interviews with Collins and the album’s producers and engineers.

Deep Purple: In Concert with The London Symphony Orchestra – Accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, rock icons Deep Purple perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall in this concert film recorded in 1999. The group dishes up hits such as “Smoke on the Water,” “Ted the Mechanic” and “Watching the Sky.”

Queen: Rock Montreal & Live Aid – The only Queen concert ever filmed in its entirety, this 1981 Montreal Live Aid performance has been digitally restored and remixed. Featuring dynamic front man Freddie Mercury, the band puts on a high-octane show for a crowd of excited fans.

Strat Pack: Live in Concert – Masters of rock guitar celebrate the 50th anniversary of Leo Fender’s Stratocaster in this tribue concert. This set filmed in 2004 features some of the world’s best rock guitarists, including David Gilmour, Brian May, Ron Wood and Joe Walsh.

Yes: Live at Montreux 2003 – Grammy Award-winning progressive rock band Yes deliver some of their greatest hits in this performance at the Montreux Festival in 2003, considered by both fans and band members to be the group’s greatest show ever captured on film.

Classic Albums: Rush: 2112 & Moving Pictures – This installment in the Classic Albums series gives fans a double dose of Rush, examining two of the seminal prog-rock band’s most important albums: “2112,” their breakthrough effort, and “Moving Pictures,” their best-selling record to date.

ZZ Top: Live from Texas – Rock legends ZZ Top bring their trademark Southern guitar sounds and their famous hair home to Texas for this exciting performance, their first live concert film in nearly four decades as musical superstars.

Toto: 25th Anniversary: Live in Amsterdam – In this concert performed live at the Heineken Arena in Amsterdam on February 25, 2003, Toto serves up hit after hit, including “Africa,” “Hold the Line” and the monster chart-topper, “Rosanna.”

Classic Albums: Meat Loaf: Bat Out of Hell – When Meat Loaf released “Bat out of Hell” in 1977, the album quickly became one of the highest grossing in history. This documentary uses interviews and concert footage to illustrate the making of the album.

Foreigner: Alive & Rockin’ – Taking the stage at the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany, Mick Jones and Foreigner dazzle a sold-out Balingen crowd with inspired renditions of hits such as “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” “Juke Box Hero” and “Cold As Ice.”

Mike and the Mechanics & Paul Carrack: Live at Shepherds Bush London –
1980s pop-rock band Mike and the Mechanics reunited in 2004 — four years after the death of member Paul Young — to record a new album and head out on tour. Filmed at London’s Shepherd’s Bush, this performance includes the group’s biggest hits.

If you are a NETFLIX customer and have a few minutes to both learn and enjoy your favorite music...scroll down to this area of the streaming area and start tapping your foot.

Stay loose.

All That For Minimum Wage?

Domino's Pizza has been running a series of spots promoting the low prices and high quality.

One of the recent offerings is where a store manager shows an I-Pad....states they are doing so well they "need more pizza chefs."  With the I-Pad in the forefront he encourages viewers to download heir new Pizza making App.....AND if you do a great job at building a pizza on the I-Pad, the WINNER will get to work at Domino's making pies (at minimum wage).

Is it just me or is that somewhat a cheesy reward for being the best?
